2500 kilomètres de néant
À Townsville, je quitte la mer et m’engouffre dans l’arrière-pays australien. 2500 kilomètres de néant m’attendent jusqu’à Darwin, avec pour unique point de ravitaillement la ville minière de Mount Isa à 800 kilomètres et un supermarché 700 kilomètres plus loin dans une communauté aborigène. Je transporte jusqu’à 16 litres d’eau et des grandes quantités de fruits, légumes et céréales. Le vélo est tellement lourd qu’il est difficile de tourner le guidon ! Par chance, l’axe de la roue arrière casse à Mount Isa à seulement 500 mètres de l’unique magasin de sport à 800 kilomètres à la ronde et dans lequel je trouve une nouvelle tige. Je poursuis et expérimente la solitude extrême de ces contrées infinies.
